Solar Thermal Store

Solar Thermal Stores

Open vented thermal store with a solar input

Solar heated mains pressure hot water from vented thermal store - the best of both worlds

Gather energy from multiple heat sources INCLUDING SOLAR in a vented cylinder to provide mains pressure hot water and wet central heating

(Non Solar model click here)

Solar stores in cylinder and combination type

The Solar Thermal Store gathers thermal energy from multiple heat sources (including solar), storing it until you call for domestic hot water or heating. As mains water is passed through the immersed heat exchanger the unit transfers stored thermal energy hence creating mains pressure hot water. The newly heated water passes through a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) as it exits the cylinder as a safety precaution to ensure it cannot reach any outlet at an unsafe temperature - hence preventing the risk of scalding. All this while remaining open vented and inherently safe. Clever!

A Solar Thermal Store can be located almost anywhere within a dwelling or premises. Simple to install with no requirement for an unvented certificate and being able to take heat from various sources including SOLAR. The Solar Thermal Store offers far greater flexibility than unvented units.

Thermal Store (Cylinder type) with optional metal jacket for mechanical protection

Above: Combination thermal store

Above: Thermal store with optional metal jacket

Thermal stores are ideal for use with 'uncontrollable heat sources' such as a wood burner, range cooker, AGA, Rayburn etc as no risk of explosion exists from over temperature or pressure. Thermal stores can accept multiple heat sources simultaneously.

The standard Solar Thermal Store is defined as a 'twin coil' cylinder but in fact has three (cold to hot mains pressure coil, boiler coil and solar input coil). Features may be added to the cylinder (some at additional cost) as per the table below:
